The History of Keno
Keno dates back in the years between 187 B.C and 205 B.C. The game was created during the Dynasty of the Has ruling. The game came about because there was virtually no resource left to fuel the war that was going on in China at the time. The government was having a difficult time finding a way to fund for the food amenities and weapons that the army so desperately needed. A man known as Cheung created a game that let a large number people bet small amounts. The small amounts would be collected and the winner would get an extremely large amount that they would never have dreamed off. What the large masses were not aware of is that the payout was only a small amount of the money collected and the remaning money went into funding the war. When money was again needed to revitalize The Great Wall the game suddenly reappeared. The game quickly gained popularity that it stayed on after that.
The first Chinese keno game didnt use numbers like the modern game. There were characters that were picked from a very popular poem known as The Thousand Character Classic. Some of the symbols included were the clouds, dew and the sun. The game later came to America in 1850 where it evolved to the game that it is today.
